Enhancing Cultural Sector Development in
the Dusheti Region

Local partner: NGO “The Centre of Georgian International Collaboration and Steady Development” (CGICSD)
Funded by: Eurasia Partnership Foundation and Open Society Foundation (OSF Budapest) Arts and Culture Network Program.
The action is supported by Dusheti Municipality.

The project is based on the survey “Feasibility Studies for Crafts Sector Development in Dusheti Region”, funded by EBRD Business Advisory Services Programme for Georgia.

The project aims to support the development of cultural sector in Dusheti region and envisages strengthening of the institutional capacity of region’s cultural organizations and operators; in particular it aims to:

  • Build the capacity and enhance the economic sustainability of Dusheti cultural institutions (including NGOs), SMEs and artisans’ through the provision of trainings & technical assistance in culture/tourism management, craft development and social entrepreneurship.
  • Raise the awareness on the importance and potential of Arts and Culture for regional development;
  • Establish regional network of local artisans, cultural NGOs and SMEs;
  • Enhance the development of cultural tourism in the region
  • Support the growth of local crafts market;

Project covers the wide range of activities including: workshops, consultations, actual work on local crafts product development, set up of local show room, mapping of Dusheti tourist routes, design, publishing and distribution of Dusheti guidebook and finally, collaboration with tourist operators and further support marketing of local art-and-crafts and tourist products.

2nd Year Activities (Open Society Foundation (OSF Budapest) Arts and Culture Network Program)

December 1, 2012 - Closing event of the project in Dusheti - Unknown Dusheti Cultural roots and contemporary representations.

October-November, 2012 - Creation of collection for the project final event

June - September, 2012 - Creation of design of textile production and costumes

June - October, 2012 - Trainings in Art Management & Entrepreneurship, Handy crafts Product development, Marketing & Promotion

May, 2012 - Open Society Foundation (OSF Budapest) Arts and Culture Network Program approved the second year funding of the GACC project Enhancing Cultural Sector Development in the Dusheti Region

1st Year Activities

December 5, 2011 - The Crafts Shop had been opened at NGO “The Centre of Georgian International Collaboration and Steady Development”

Novmeber 2011 - The Turist Guide of Dusheti municipality had been buplished

June 16, 2011 - Art-Gene Festival ;The First day ofArt-Gene Festival was dedicated to Mtskheta -Mtianeti Region. The participation had been scheduledduring the workshopsin Culture Management held within the Georgian Arts and Culture Center's project "Enhancing Cultural Sector Development in the

Dusheti Region" The visitors were acquainted to the traditional Folklore and products of Dusheti Craftsmen presented by Khvaramze.

May, 2011 - the web-page of the local NGO “The Centre of Georgian International Collaboration and Steady Development” has been set up. www.khvaramze.ge

April - November 2011 - The workshops in the fields of SocialEnterpreneurship, Culture Managment, Crafts Business, Crfat Prodct Development and Cultural Tourism are provided for the selected participants in Dusheri

March 25, 2011 - Presentation of GACC project "Development of entrepreneurship of crafts based NGO for the social improvement of cultural sector of Dusheti region". The event will be held at Conference Hall of Dusheti Municipality

January-February, 2011 - GACC project "Enhancing Cultural Sector Development in the Dusheti Region" was approved by the Eurasia Partnership Foundation and Open Society Foundation (OSF Budapest) Arts and Culture Network Program
