BIOSUSTAIN
Sustaining BSB Biodiversity through Traditional Knowledge and Innovation

Implementation period: 2024-2026
Funded by: the EU Black Sea Basin Interreg NEXT program

Project Leader: Georgian Arts and Culture Center (Georgia)
Partners: Varna University of Management (Bulgaria) and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece)

BIOSUSTAIN is to activate the preservation and restoration of BSB ecosystems and landscapes by innovatively applying traditional ecological knowledge. This involves mobilization of local communities in protecting local species through targeted awareness-raising, capacity building, developing and promoting TEK-based economically viable models based on BSB's natural heritage.

BIOSUSTAIN will:
• Implement pilot studies in the project partner countries.
• Develop innovative methods for using traditional knowledge in various interconnected sectors (traditional crafts, cooking, and medicine).
• Strengthen the capacities of local populations for effective protection of landscapes and ecosystems.

The project pays special attention to raising public awareness about the importance of traditional knowledge and the role of local communities in the process of biodiversity conservation.
